In continuation of his loan giving scheme, Central Bank of Liberia, Dr. J. Mills Jones and entourage were, over the weekend, given a red carpet welcome in Lofa County. Dr. Jones’ visit to that part of the country was to dedicate two rural financial institutions which, he says, is his administration’s vision to empower Liberians in order to control the economy.
His first stop was in Zorzor where residents turned out en masse to grace his arrival. At an indoor program, Dr. Jones was gowned by the Village Saving Club and named by elders of Zorzor as Kolubah (running man) in Lorma. “We did not know in the past what CBL can do but what we are seeing under Dr. Jones’ watch is different. CBL work now is impacting the lives of Liberians at their door steps,” said NboweleeManjoe, Chairlady of Rural Women Association.
In remarks Governor Jones told the citizens of Zorzor that he and his entourage have come to the county in the name of unity and economic empowerment. He stated that people have created what is referred to as international community, adding that if Liberians work together they can make big things from themselves and the communities they come from.
“If Liberians come together, they can do big things for Liberia and themselves and that Liberians have for so long lived in poverty and that no party will go ahead and leave the rest behind. We have to succeed together or fail together,” said Dr. Jones. According to Governor Jones, leaders lead by example and this is what he wants to do, adding that good policymakers bring development and it is because of his good policy that those developments are taking place.
Following the dedication of the rural financial institution in Zorzor, Governor Jones and party took off to Voinjama where they were met on arrival by another huge turn-out who sang and marched with him through the principal streets of the County.
From Voinjama, Governor Jones and party took off for Kolahun District with another large turn-out where the second rural financial institution was dedicated. While in Kolahun district Governor Jones told the citizens that the bank is not for Governor Jones but for the Liberian people as some Liberians continue to have misconceptions about the work of the CBL in empowering Liberians.
“Collectively we believe in program of transformation. Those who say negative things about our work are enemies of progress and are people without ideas. We are not here to respond to useless talks, we are here to work for the Liberian people,” said Governor Jones.
According to Governor Jones, the two rural institutions, which is the first of its kind in the county, will receive from CBL LD$2,175,000 to beef off its operation and provide training. He said share to an individual will stop at US$5,000 so that no one will boast of having any greater share.
