The Presiding Judge of the Civil Law Court at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia, Yusuf D. Kaba, has issued a writ of summons against the Administration of the University of Liberia to appear in court on December 12 for the expulsion of a student. Judge Kaba said failure on the part of the administration of the university to appear in court on December 12, the court will render judgment by default against them.

The lawyer representing student Alvin Wesseh, Attorney Arthur Johnson, prayed the court to revoke and reverse the decision of the university to expel Wesseh and restore his status as a student of the UL. Attorney Johnson indicated in the petition that Wesseh, a senior student of the Agriculture College of the university, has always been a law-abiding student, especially in his role as a student leader. It can be recalled that on July 29 the Administration expelled Alvin Wesseh from the university.

Attorney Johnson said the action of the University is in violation of the entity’s Student Handbook, specifically the portion which deals with rules and regulations governing the behavior of students attending the institution.

Meanwhile, The Vice President for UL Relations, Norris Tweh, has challenged members of the 96thgraduating class of the University of Liberia (UL) to serve as ambassadors of change as they depart the walls of the institution.

Tweh observed that over the years the UL has been unfairly negatively portrayed by some members of the public, but with the rise in academic quality as well as the increase in professionals at the level of the administration, the UL has proven its critics wrong.

Speaking Thursday at the Alumni Day Program held on the main campus of the University, Tweh encouraged the would-be graduates to serve as a catalyst for positive change and help build a vibrant image of the noble university.

Tweh wants the graduates to take the message of change to their various communities by encouraging others to take advantage of the numerous opportunities at the UL so that they too can improve their educational capacities.

According to Tweh, enrollment at the university as well as student academic performance have shown that more females are now competing with their male counterparts as they are doing extremely well in the academic arena.

“As you go out of these walls, I want you to help change the perception of community dwellers, tell the people that the UL is on a new trajectory,” Tweh noted. Tweh believes that with the rise in the academic as well as the female and administrative profile of the UL, the institution will continue to provide quality services to students, thereby making the nation a destination of excellence.
