Boakai Lauds U.S. Centers for Disease Control

Vice President Joseph N. Boakai currently in Atlanta, Georgia on a visit, has been meeting with corporate giants and other institutions Center in pursuit of Liberia’s interest and the enhancement of the lives of the Liberian people.


They included the Hadfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the Delta Airlines, the Morehouse School of Medicine, Carter Center and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).


A dispatch from Atlanta said at the Delta World Headquarters, the Vice President updated the Airlines Management on recent developments in Liberia relative to the containment of the Ebola Virus Disease and the emerging favorable operating climate for airlines.


In talks at the Morehouse School of Medicine, the Vice President articulated the devastation brought upon the country by the Ebola Virus and outlined areas of need in the country's healthcare delivery system.


He called for the institution's greater involvement in the post-Ebola revamping and strengthening of Liberia's health sector, according to the dispatch.


At the Hadfield-Jackson Atlantic International Airport, Vice President Boakai discussed that Airport's sister relations with the Roberts International Airport. At the CDC, Vice President Boakai thanked them for the pivotal role they played in Liberia's fight against Ebola.


Another key highlight of the Vice President's visit was his presence at a dinner hosted in his honor by Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill, where he made a compelling case for help in the security sector, particularly given the ongoing UNMIL draw down.


He pointed specifically to the diverse needs of the Liberian National Police, and invited the Sheriff to pay a visit to Liberia. The Sheriff responded favorably to the invitation, stating his particular interest in the welfare of Liberia, the dispatch added.


Vice President Boakai received assurances of greater commitment and consent for appropriate technical committees to be put in place to formulate workable and sustainable avenues of support, partnership, and direct assistance, said the dispatch.
