Government Releases New Transport Fares

The Liberian Government has announced a reduction in transportation fares based on the drop in retail prices of petroleum products, especially gasoline and diesel, in the country. A statement approved by Transport Minister Angela Cassell Bush stated that the government’s decision was contained in a joint communication signed by the Ministries of Transport and Commerce and Industry.

“In recent months there has been a net decrease of 22% in the previous prices of petroleum products in Liberia,” noted the statement quoted by the Liberia News Agency.

According to the statement, government has warned drivers that will refuse to adhere to the reduction in transportation fares will be fined and penalized.It said taxi will be fined US$100for the first offense, US$200 for buses and pickups, while for the second offense taxi pays US$ 200 and pickups US$400.The statement also indicated that the third offense will warrant the suspension of the operator’s license for two years.

Meanwhile, commuters will now pay L$60 from Broad Street to Paynesville Red Light by taxi, L$35 by bus and from Broad Street to Duala is L$35 by taxi and L$20 by bus.

From Broad Street to New Georgia junction is L$25 by taxi and L$15 by bus while from Monrovia to Bardnersville Junction is L$40 by taxi and L$20 by bus, and form Broad Street to Stephen Tolbert Estate now costs L$45 by taxi and 25 by bus.

From Broad Street to Bardnersville Estate is L$55 by taxi and L$35 for bus; New Georgia Estate is L$45 by taxi and L$30 by bus; Jacob Town is L$55 by taxi and L$25 by bus; Old Matadi Estate by taxi is L$35 and L$25 by bus; Duport Road Junction is L$55 by taxi and L$25 by bus; ELWA Junction is L$45 by taxi and L$25 by bus.
