Weah’s CDC Dumps Wilson Tarpeh,...Elects Mcgill Elected As Chair

The opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has elected Mr. Nathaniel McGill former Secretary General as its national chairman. Mcgill replaces long embattled former Chairman George Solo, who was expelled by the party last year. Mr. McGill served as acting chairman after the expulsion of Solo and ran unopposed for the coveted seat, during the Party’s National Congress held in Bentol, Montserrado County. McGill ran unopposed because according to sources in the CDC, the other contender Professor Wilson Tarpeh withdrew from the process.

The CDC former Secretary General was elected along with other officials of the party to fill positions, including vice chairman for political affairs, won by Rev. Edward Wawoe, Mr. C. Mike Doyen for vice chair for international Affairs and Cllr. Cyrenius Cephas who also contested unopposed won as vice chair for legal and governmental Affairs.

The newly elected officials will be ending the four-year tenure of officials elected in 2012. Mr. Archievego Doe, Spokesman for the CDC said the newly elected officials’ tenure would end by June 2016. This he said would then pave the way for a new election at its 6th National congress.

In an interview with FrontPageAfrica via mobile phone Mr. Doe said that Mr. Jangai Cloe was also elected to fill in the position of Secretary-General as a result of a vacancy created by McGill’s election as chairman of the Party. “The Process was peaceful and open. Delegates were allowed to cast their votes for the candidate of their choice,” said Doe. “The CDC is a party that believes in the practice of Democracy and the just held Congress is a clear demonstration of that commitment.”

Election activities according to Mulbah Morlu, organizing chairman of the CDC Congress, brought together delegates from the fifteen political subdivisions of the party. The Bentol Congress was a two-day event where delegates also reviewed and drafted new laws for the party as they prepare for 2017 election said Morlu.

The CDC in 2014 was embroiled in confusion with the Executive Committee declaring that it has suspended Solo while on the other hand; Solo was claiming that he remains the party Chairman and also suspended three members of the party in person of Mulbah Morlu and Jefferson Koijee.

The rigmarole prompted the Grievance and Ethics Committee to probe the confusion and the Committee headed by Samuel D. Tweah, Jr., Chairman; Professor Ansu Sonii, Cllr. Sayma Cyrenius Cephus in a final report released September 5 found the embattled Chairman Solo guilty on three counts.

In its final report, the committee stated “Considering that the National Chairman is guilty on three of the four charges brought against him by the National Executive Committee of the Congress for Democratic Change, the Grievance and Ethics Committee upholds the suspension of the CDC National Chairman George Solo.

The Grievance and Ethics Committee concludes that the National Executive Committee’s action meets the CAUSE requirement imposed by Article 5 Section 46 of the CDC constitution, as has been severally established and demonstrated in this report.”
