Grand Kru Senatorial Candidate Receives Major Honor

Some great people who contributed enormously in the development and growth of the society are always remembered in a distinctive ways and will not be forgotten very soon. A Classical example is the visible undertaking of an illustrious daughter of Barclayville Chiefdom, Grand Kru County, Mrs. Rosalind Segbe Tonne Sneh. She served as a Superintendent from 2006 to 2011 and doing all these years, Madam Sneh served her people with commitment and dedication surpassing the past and present superintendents of the county. She is widely referred to by the citizens and foreign residents of the county are the “icon of development”, and image builder.
This eminent and great mother through the support of President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf’s administration successfully gave Grand Kru County a desirable a face-lift, thus taking development to the various parts of the county. As a result of her hard-works, the prestige of President Johnson-Sirleaf is very high in the county.
Grand Kru County is located in the Southeastern Region of Liberia, bordering with River Gee County on the north, Sinoe County on the west, Maryland County on the east and the Atlantic Ocean on the south with a population of about 57,106.
Its creation evolved from an understanding between senior members of the People’s Redemption Council (PRC) leading to the passage of Decree # 87 by the Interim National Assembly (INA) on April 12, 1984. The creation of the County resulted from a merger of Kru Coast Territory in Maryland County, Sasstown Territory in Sinoe County and the Statutory District of Buah also in Maryland.
Barclayville was named as its capital because of its centralized location and to overcome the traditional and political rivalry between the two (2) former capitals of Grandcess (Kru Coast Territory) and Sasstown (SasstownTerritory). The County consists of Kru speaking people representing the coastal population (30%) and the Grebo speaking hinterland population of 68%, while 2% is a mixed of other groupings.
It is in recognition of Mrs. Sneh’s contributions to the County that has encouraged the Grand Kru University Student Association (KUSA), a mother of conglomerations of Grand Kru University Student across the country to bestow a high honor on Mrs. Sneh. She is contesting the Midterm Senatorial Election for Grand Kru County on the ticket of the ruling Unity Party headed by its Standard-Bearer, President Johnson-Sirleaf.
Describing Mrs. Sneh as an icon of development and growth, the leadership of the Grand Kru University Student Association at the University of Liberia (UL) said the association is encouraged to honor the former superintendent due to what they described as her admirable and valuable services rendered the people of Grand Kru while serving as superintendent.
The association official Spokesman, Mr. Alfred Torh speaking at a well organized occasion held recently in Central Monrovia, he satisfactorily enumerated the level of transformations the citizens of the county continue to enjoy as a result of Mrs. Sneh progressive and admirable leadership styles.
Although the association admitted that it is difficult to recount Mrs. Sneh’s numerable achievements in the County, the Grand Kru University Student Association named establishment of GSM companies including Cellcom and Lonestar in the county, the construction of George Walker Bush’s Bridge and several other bridges across the county and the decentralization of basic visible infrastructural projects in the county.
The group speaking further reiterates that Madam Sneh’s dynamic leadership of decentralization has brought great relief to the peace loving citizens of the county. The decentralization, he said to some extend has created an opportunity of popular participation in decision making, the student spokes person added.
Besides, association named other major achievements as the construction of the County Administrative Building, the famous Presidential Palace, Barclayville City Hall, Central Bank Grand Kru Branch, Circuit Court Building, Grand Kru Police Station & Barrack, Women Training Center, Washington Modern School Building, Grand Kru Agriculture Office, County Guest House and Barclayville Central Market.
Other accomplishments include Grand Kru Immigration Office, the construction of George Walker Bush Bridge, Picnicess School – LACE, Picnicess Police Depot, Picnicess Bridge-LACE , Grandcess Magisterial Court, Grandcess Fishery Building, Gbanken Clinic/Wedabo, Nrokia Public School, Nrokia Market-GAA, Sassstown Fishery Building, Sasstown Bridge-GAA, Buah Health Center, Buah Iron Bridge-GAA, Dweken School, Dweken Clinic, Dweken Bridge-GAA, Gblebo School-LACE, Sorroken School-CRS, Behwan School-LWS and Behwan Health Center.
Others achievements are Behwan Police Depot, Behwan Market-DRC, Garraway Clinic-ICRC, Weteken School/Garraway, Nifu Clinic/Jloh-MERLIN, Nyankunpo Clinic/Bolloh-MERLIN,Pleebo-Barclayville Road and Hosted National Cabinet Retreat.
The student group vowed to campaign for the election Madam Sneh in this year’s October Midterm Senatorial Election to ensure that the people of the county get the rightful representation in the Senate. The Association added that the County needs someone who has been tested over the years and capable of championing the interests of the citizenry in the National Legislature.
According to the association, the October poll will be based on development and not money because according to them, certain candidate desperation for power has made him to turn a millionaire over night by using cash violence to buy the citizens’ precious votes in the October poll. The association further reiterated that the county needs someone like Mrs. Sneh with an acceptable leadership standard and developmental oriental.
The students expressed optimism that given the good work of Madam Sneh, she can do more if she is given greater opportunity to serve the people in the senate. Beaming with smiles, the honoree, Mrs. Sneh lauded the Grand Kru University Student Association for recognizing her efforts. She used the occasion to assure the good people of the county that if elected, she will protect their interests and advocate for more infrastructures development in the county.
She used the occasion to call on the citizens of Grand Kru to remain steadfast in deciding what is good for them, adding that it takes the citizens of Grand Kru to build the country. Mrs. Sneh is urging the electorates and great people of Grand Kru to be mindful of a particular senatorial candidate who desperation for the county’s senatorial slot is using money to buy their votes.
She wants the electorates and the citizens of the county to evaluate all the senatorial candidates by their past deeds, saying that the county needs developmental oriental people and not corrupt individuals who were dismissed by the president.
