The Vice Chairman of the Youth Center in Tubmanburg, Bomi County, Isaac Nyakpah, has said that the lack of direct budgetary support to the center is hindering its effective operations. Nyakpah said the county’s youth center is finding it difficult to carry out youth activities due to the lack of funding from the government.

He said over the weekend that support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Federation of Liberian Youths (FLY) was not enough to meet the program needs of the center.

Mr. Nyakpah stressed the need to build an annex to the center, noting that the present building is too small to host all youth activities in the county. He said there is also a need to decentralize the activities of the center from Tubmanburg to all the four districts of the county. He said to do this, however, would require budgetary support from the Government, rather than mere compensation to staff.

Mr.Nyakpah disclosed that the construction of an annex which will cost US$4,500 has been earmarked for the 2014/2015 fiscal year, adding that funding for this project will come from proceeds of previous programs.

Mr. Nyakpah said the plan to spread the activities of the center to the four districts is also part of the 2014/2015 agenda. He said 30 students will be graduating from an eight- month computer training program shortly.
