The National Housing Authority (NHA) has given out 28 title deeds to residents of the Old and New Matadi Housing Estates who have paid for the units.

Speaking at the official program marking the issuance of the title deeds Sunday, NHA Managing Director Samuel Thompson said that the rest of about 200 deeds will be given to the residents following the completion of an ongoing survey being conducted by the Ministry of Lands, Mines and Energy. He said the NHA is working closely with the Ministry to speed up the process.

Thompson said the handinf over of the deeds was in keeping with President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf''s directive that residents of the various housing estates who are in good financial standing be given the title deeds to take ownership of the property they have paid for.

He told the jubilant crowd that the exercise was also in fulfillment of the Liberian leader's “Home Ownership Initiative” for residents of the various housing estates in Monrovia.

For his part, Mr. Nathaniel Kemah, who spoke on behalf of the recipients, lauded the Liberian Government through the NHA for the kind gesture, stressing that the Government has made them property owners.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Matadi Housing Estate Community, Madam Marie Taylor, has praised the NHA for the issuing the deeds and called on others who have not met up with their financial obligations to remain steadfast in paying their rent.
